speech!

Thanks to everyone who played along with the NSD blog hop.  I loved reading all of the comments and wanted to say thank you for the wonderful compliments!

Word on the street is that the winners will be announced tomorrow on the Sassafras Lass blog.  And while I’ve picked my winner I’m sorry to say that I just can’t share it with you here.  I know…that’s teasing.  Don’t tell my kids I just did that.

Good luck!

I’ve got goodies!

Goodies you say?  Did I get your attention?

If you weren’t already aware, today is National Scrapbooking Day (NSD).  A day where folks all over the world get to sit around scissors and tape runners in hand, sniffing paper and creating masterpieces. Ok maybe that’s cutting paper – am I the only one who sniffs the new stuff?

And in case you didn’t know there is a blog hop going on in honor of NSD with the Sassafras Lass team.  We’ve all created something new to show off the goodies that you might win by simply leaving a comment.

So visit each team member’s blog and leave a comment.  If you’re going in order, head to Megan’s next!

The more comments you leave, the more chances you have to win a prize package worth $20 – fun right?

The giveaway closes on Monday, May 9 at 9:00 p.m. EST so be sure to visit all the blogs and comment by then.  The winners will be announced early next week.  Have fun and Happy Scrapping!

it’s just like vitamin D

You know those lights that people put in their houses in the winter and sit in front of – vitamin D therapy?

Yeah, me neither.

So the light enhances your mood, reduces your food cravings, and gives you more energy.  Bonus right?  But I’m thinking that I could get the same affect by playing with some new fun papers like these from Sassafras Lass!

I mean honestly, look at this color:

And the sky:

Or just the freshness here:

There are many more papers and elements to the collection so check out the blog. – it’s called “Sunshine Broadcast” – doesn’t that just make you happy?

I know that the thought of sitting alone in a quiet room working with these papers would make me happy – the heck with the light!  Not that I know anything about it.

I’ve found my own shot of Vitamin D in paper form – score!

Happy Earth Day!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Because three it’s a magic number
Yes it is, it’s a magic number

Jack Johnson fans unite!

In honor of Earth day I’m sharing a sewing project that I made out of recycled materials – t-shirts!  I cut them into strips, said a little prayer since this was my first time sewing jersey (rookie) and sent it through my ruffler foot. I went for it and…

Viola!

Oh glorious pile of ruffles.

It’s too bad that my husband doesn’t wear more pink or I could have borrowed HIS old t-shirts.  He only has a spare 300 sitting around.

I sewed the ruffles onto a basic skirt design that I made from one of my husbands old t-shirts (the boring white stained variety) and came up with this little number.

We call it a ruffle skirt around here.  We’re original like that.

The environment was happy.  My gal was happy.  And I was happy that I didn’t have to throw my sewing machine out the window.

Stay tuned for more sewing with jersey.

oldie but goodie

Says the biased creator.  I wanted to share something that I made last fall for the Scrapbook & Cards blog.  At the time I was thinking they’d make great Christmas gifts.  Heck they still would make great Christmas gifts if you work that far ahead…please tell me you don’t work that far ahead!?!  But they’d also make great gifts in general and they’re just FUN to do.

The tile pendants themselves are made from an acrylic tile, scrapbook paper, a rub-on and a few other little bits.  You can get the directions here with step-by-step photos.

I incorporated the pendants into cards to make gift giving easier.

Or I just say that because it sounds good.  Truth is I’m an overachiever and need people or ohhhh and awwwwww over things and presentations is one way to get that.

I was the youngest child.  I need all of the attention I can get.

I taught me everything I know

So maybe the title is a little misleading.  But I do consider myself “self-taught” when it comes to sewing.  Sure I’ve asked my mom questions (she’s “self-taught” too), and I’ve read my share of blogs that talk about sewing but I’ve never taken a class.  Ebooks and I are very good friends but surprisingly (insert sarcasm here) I’m not happy sticking to the patterns entirely. That’s how I can up with this:

The fabric patterns are all over the place and that was 100% intentional.  The top bodice I sketched on my own and while you can’t see it, the back is shirred. The bottom skirt part of the dress is extra full because my gal likes to twirl.  Honestly, I put something new on her and that’s the first thing she says, “can I twirl”?  So sewing has been on the brain.

Actually, I watch sewing shows on television, like Project Runway and imagine myself being a fabulous seamstress (a gal can dream right?).  So I go to my sketchbook, come up with these little numbers and I’m happy.

And then I’m off to my next crafty project.

sprucing…sassafras style

If you’re looking for a fun little Easter project, you know something to spruce up your decor, head on over to the  Sassafras Lass blog.

There you’ll find these little numbers

You’ll be able to get the instructions and the template and I’ll tell you – they’re super easy to create.

It’s an easy way to impress someone…or just be cute all on your own (don’t even tell folks you had help)

And I promise you that the neighbors hanging the plastic eggs will be jealous. So hop on over (get the lame Easter reference?  I should be ashamed) and check it out.
